Total option volume remains above average at 7 million contracts traded so far today, with the top indexes and ETFs dominating the action, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
More than 1.2 million options have traded in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) as puts outpaced calls by almost 2 to 1. Next up is the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) at 486,000 options, with calls just slightly eclipsing puts. Just behind is the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) at 480,000 and a put/call ratio topping 2 to 1.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (:IWM) has 231,000 contracts changing hands, with a put/call ratio of almost 3 to 1. Following closely is the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) at 220,000 options, with 134,000 calls.
The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has seen 194,000 options turn over, led by 112,000 puts. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 160,000 with 82,000 puts.
