Total option volume tops 6.3 million contracts so far today, with mixed action in the major indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 588,000 options traded, with 344,000 puts. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 177,000 contracts changing hands, with a put/call ratio of more than 2 to 1. Just behind are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 170,000, with puts slightly outpacing calls.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 130,000 options, with 82,000 puts. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) has seen 91,000 contracts turn over, with calls just outnumbering puts.
