Option volume is relatively light today as just over 5.1 million contracts so far, with mixed action in the major indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 463,000 options traded, with a put/call ratio of almost 2 to 1. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 376,000, with puts slightly outpacing calls.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 116,000 contracts changing hands, with 68,000 puts. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has volume of 97,000, with calls outnumbering puts. Following is the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) at 88,000 options, with 50,000 calls.
