Total option volume is very strong as more than 9 million contracts have already traded today, with calls leading the action in many leading indexes and ETFs, optionMONSTER data systems.
More than 1.5 million options have moved in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY), including 845,000 puts. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 233,000, with calls outpacing puts.
The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 270,000 options traded, led by 196,000 calls. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 269,000 contracts changing hands, with 166,000 puts. The iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (IWM) has seen 262,00 options turne over, with a put/call ratio of almost 4 to 1.
The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) has 162,000 options traded, with 90,000 puts. The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options follow with 146,000 as calls slightly eclipse puts.
