Total option volume is 6.6 million contracts so far today, with an overriding bullish sentiment in the major indexes and ETFs, optionMONSTER's data systems show.
Just over 1 million options have traded in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) with 548,000 calls. (It is rare to see calls outpace puts in that ETF.) The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options haved turn over 250,000 contracts and also has more calls than puts, with 132,000 of the former.
Following are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options at 219,000, with puts outpacing calls by 3 to 1. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 173,000 options traded, with 94,000 puts.
The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) has seen 151,000 contracts change hands, with 85,000 calls. Next up are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options at 104,000, with calls outpacing puts by 2 to 1.
