Total option volume is running light at 4.6 million so far today, with relatively bullish action in the major indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 624,000 options trading as puts slightly eclipse calls. Next up is the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (:IWM) at 209,000, evenly split between calls and puts. Just behind is the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) with 203,000 options, 110,000 of which are puts.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 114,000 contracts changing hands as puts just outpacing calls. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has volume of 85,000, evenly split as well.
The CBOE Volatility Index and the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) both have 65,000 options traded. The VIX has 48,000 calls, and the VXX has 34,000 calls.
