Total option volume is above average with 6 million contracts trading so far today, dominated by a handful of the top indexes and ETFs, optionMONSTER's data systems show.
Just shy of 1 million options have traded in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY), with calls slightly outpacing puts. Next up is the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) with 478,000 options moving as puts slightly outpace calls.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 206,000 contracts changing hands, with a put/call ratio of almost 2 to 1. Following closely is the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) at 184,000 options, 102,000 of which are calls.
The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has volume of 156,000, with calls outnumbering puts by 2 to 1. And the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) has 98,000 options traded, with slightly more puts than calls.
