Total option volume is running above average at 6.5 million contracts so far today, with major indexes and ETFs dominating the trade, according to optionMONSTER systems.
Just over 1 million options have traded in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY), with 644,000 puts. Next up is the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) at 355,000 options, with a put/call ratio topping 2 to 1.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 247,000 contracts changing hands, with 151,000 puts. Following is the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) at 193,000 options as puts outpace calls by almost 3 to 1.
The SPDR Financial Fund (XLF) has 136,000 options traded, with calls outnumbering puts by 2 to 1. The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has 107,000 options moving, with 66,000 calls. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) ha 88,000, with calls slightly outpacing puts.
