Total option volume is running a bit light at 5.1 million so far today, led by the typical indexes and ETFs, optionMONSTER data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 663,000 options traded, with a put/call ratio topping 2 to 1. Next up is the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) with volume of 309,000 that is evenly split between calls and puts. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) follows at 245,000 options as puts outpace calls by 3 to 1.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 134,000 contracts changing hands, with 93,000 puts. Just behind is the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) at 122,000, with 66,000 calls.
