Total option volume is a bit below average so far today at 5.2 million contracts, with relatively bullish sentiment in the top indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 572,000 contracts traded, with 360,000 puts. Next up is the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) at 210,000, with 127,000 calls. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) follows with volume of 200,000 and a put/call ratio approaching 2 to 1.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 174,000 contracts changing hands, evenly split between calls and puts. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 151,000 options traded, with 84,000 puts.
The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has seen 77,000 options turn over, led by 51,000 puts. And the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) follows with volume of 71,000 as puts slightly eclipse calls.
