SOUTH WINDSOR, CT--(Marketwire -07/27/12)- Mike Tyson is trying something new this summer: performing on a Broadway stage.
The former heavyweight champion of the world will appear at the Longacre Theatre in New York City for 12 shows, from July 31 to August 12. Titled Undisputed Truth, the one-man show is directed by Spike Lee, who is best known for his work directing films like Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X. The show is billed as the raw tale of Tyson's life, touching on his professional success as well as his personal troubles.
Tyson's foray into live theater brings to mind Charlie Sheen's My Violent Torpedo of Truth from last year, which generated a lot of initial buzz but ended up flopping once his first few shows received negative reviews. Undisputed Truth could fare better, as Lee provides his award-winning direction (whereas Sheen's show was self-directed).
