Monster Beverage reports $5.3M in Q3 costs due to regulation, litigation

During the three months ended September 30, the company incurred increased professional service costs of $6.5M, of which $5.3M was related to regulatory matters and litigation concerning the advertising, marketing, promotion, ingredients, usage, safety and sale of the company's Monster Energy brand energy drinks. The company said "We are continuing with our plans to introduce the Monster Energy brand in new international markets and are pleased to report that we received regulatory approval for the sale of Monster Energy brand energy drinks in India in October 2013. We reiterate that our energy drinks are safe, based on both our and the industry's long track record and the scientific evidence supporting the safety of our ingredients."
