SARASOTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Morgan Stanley Wealth Management today announced that its Sarasota office is the first financial business in the Sarasota area to add a hearing loop, the revolutionary system that allows hearing-impaired individuals to better hear and understand speech. The Firm added the system to support both group presentations as well as individual one-on-one client consultations.
“We are grateful for this technology, which will help enhance the experience for our clients and visitors with hearing loss,” said Robin Hogan, Senior Vice President, Branch Manager, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, Sarasota. “Our goal is to always provide exemplary customer service and offer an inclusive environment to everyone who enters our doors.”
According to the Hearing Loss Association of Sarasota (HLAS), the hearing loop is the only system that can project a person’s voice from a microphone directly into a hearing aid without the need of a headset, as it can access a T-Coil, a wireless receiver with which most hearing aids come equipped. The result is clear, clean sound without the interference that can accompany other systems. This is critical as people with hearing loss often need clarity rather than volume to overcome impairment.
“Many with hearing loss can miss anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of a conversation,” said HLAS President, Edward F. Ogiba. “I hope that many other organizations follow Morgan Stanley’s lead because those with hearing loss rate financial and medical discussions as their most frustrating when they cannot fully understand what is being said.”
There are 135,000 people with hearing loss in the two counties, accounting for 20 percent of the population, the highest incidence of hearing loss in the U.S. However, some 86 percent of people with hearing loss do not have hearing aids for many reasons, including their high cost and the fact that most insurance policies do not cover them. Importantly, Morgan Stanley also purchased a loop receiver for hard-of hearing clients who do not wear hearing aids, so they too can access the loop system.
Morgan Stanley joins 92 other institutions in the Sarasota area, including 18 theatres, which have added a loop system in the last 30 months, making Sarasota the most hearing friendly city in the U.S. For a complete list of looped venues in Sarasota, visit www.hlas.org.
