Morning Call: Markets Up On Economic Data

International

Asia

●      Asian stock indexes rose as German and French growth data eased fears in the euro area. Stock indexes were also improved by the Bank of Japan not ruling out stimulating the economy.

●      The Nikkei advanced 0.5 percent; KOSPI soared 1.27 percent; Shanghai Composite boosted 0.3 percent; Hang Seng strengthened 1.05 percent; S'P/ASX 200 rose 0.21 percent.

Europe

●      European stock indexes rose after stronger-than-anticipated German and French GDP growth data, even though the euro area contracted as much as analysts predicted. Look for movements in the Vanguard MSCI Europe ETF (VGK).

 

Domestic

●      U.S. stock futures indicated a higher opening, as investors believed that retail sales increased after three months of contraction.

Gold and Silver Rose

●      Gold advanced 0.11 percent, or $1.80, to $1611.55. Expect increases in the SPDR Gold Shares physical bullion ETF(GLD).

●      Silver increased 0.14 percent, or $0.04, to $27.85. Look for improvements in the iShares Silver Trust (SLV).

WTI and Brent Oil Bolstered

●      The September contract for WTI crude oil rose 0.22 percent, or $0.20, to $92.91 per barrel.

●      The September contract for Brent crude oil strengthened 0.26 percent, or $0.29, to $113.89 per barrel.

●      Expect growth in both the United States Oil Fund (USO) and the United States Brent Oil Fund (BNO).
