NEW YORK (AP) -- Murphy Oil Corp. said Wednesday that it named Steve Cossé president and CEO, effectively immediately.

Cossé succeeds David Wood, the company's current president, CEO and board member, who will retire after a 17-year career at the company. Wood will also resign from his director position.

Murphy Oil, based in El Dorado, Ark., also named Roger Jenkins, its executive vice president of exploration and production, to the new position of chief operating officer.

Cossé joined Murphy in 1991 and is currently a board member. He previously was executive vice president of exploration and production and the company's general counsel.

Jenkins joined Murphy in 2001 and was named to his current post in 2009.

Murphy shares closed unchanged at $45.60.
