National Fuel Gas says David Smith to retire as exec. chairman in April

National Fuel Gas Co. said Monday that David Smith is retiring as executive chairman in April. He will continue to serve as chairman of the board but will not have any day-to-day responsibilities.

The energy company did not name a replacement.

Smith, 60, began working at National Fuel Gas in 1978. He was CEO from February 2008 to March 2013 and was replaced by current CEO and President Ronald Tanski.

Based in Buffalo, N.Y., the company stores and distributes natural gas. Its utility business provides natural gas to customers in New York and Pennsylvania.

Shares of National Fuel Gas slipped 42 cents to $71.04 in morning trading Monday.
