    Mortgage rates fell in this week's rate survey.

    The price of a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage fell 3 basis points this week to 3.54 percent. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point.

    The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage fell 1 basis point to 2.87 percent.

    For loans of more than $417,000, the average 30-year rate on a jumbo mortgage went down 3 basis points to 4.06 percent.

    The benchmark adjustable-rate mortgage, the 5/1 ARM, was still 2.72 percent. ARMs have a fixed rate for five years and an annual adjustment every year after that.
