Navistar International Corporation (NAV) expanded its product line with the launch of heavy-duty vocational truck, International WorkStar. The truck is equipped with Navistar’s 13-liter engine with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions technology. This is the fourth heavy-duty International truck model to have been converted to SCR technology since Dec 2012.
The International WorkStar trucks complement Navistar’s aim to satisfy customers with the launch of innovative and best-in-class products.
The truck is available in two variations, 7600 SBA (46" set-back axle) and 7600 SFA (30" set-forward axle). Featuring 113" BBC (bumper to back-of-cab), the trucks are suitable for carrying heaviest of loads.
Navistar offers a wide range of heavy-duty trucks with SCR technology. They include International ProStar, International PayStar 5900 Set-Back Axle and International 9900i, which features Cummins Inc.’s (CMI) ISX15 engine.
Navistar’s 13-liter engine with SCR technology has also featured in ProStar, which was launched in April. The company intends to launch more heavy-duty trucks with SCR emissions technology in the near future.
Warrenville, Ill-based Navistar manufactures and sells commercial trucks, mid-range diesel engines, buses, military vehicles and chassis for motor homes and step-vans. It also provides service parts for various trucks and trailers. Currently, the company carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).
Navistar’s second quarter (ended Apr 30, 2013) loss widened to $353 million or $4.39 per share compared with $137 million or $1.99 per share (excluding special items) in the year-ago quarter. Reported loss was also significantly wider than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of $1.09 per share. Revenues declined 22.5% year over year to $2.5 billion in the quarter, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.9 billion.
Some stocks that are performing well in the industry where NAV operates include Visteon Corp. (VC) and American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. (AXL). Visteon carries a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), whereas American Axle holds a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
