Nebraska's unemployment rate drops to 3.7 percent in November _ the lowest in 4 years
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Nebraska's unemployment rate dropped to 3.7 percent in November — the lowest it has been in four years, according to the Nebraska Department of Labor.
The preliminary jobless rate was down from October's rate of 3.8 percent and well below the 4.3 percent a year ago.
It also was less than half of the national rate of 7.7 percent in November. The national rate is down from October's 7.9 percent and last November's 8.7 percent.
The number of unemployed people in Nebraska was estimated at 38,091 in November. That's lower than the 39,254 in October and the 43,501 unemployed in November 2011.
In Nebraska's largest city, the unemployment rate dropped to 3.7 percent in November from October's 3.9 percent. The rate remained below last November's 4.3 percent.
In Lincoln, the unemployment rate also dropped slightly in November to 3 percent compared to the previous month's 3.2 percent. A year ago, the Lincoln unemployment rate was 3.4 percent in November.
The unemployment rates for Lincoln and Omaha are not seasonally adjusted, the department has said, so they cannot be directly compared to the state unemployment rate.
