Late on Thursday, Netflix tweeted its disinterest in branching out to support Research in Motion’s BlackBerry smartphones or PlayBook tablets. Their decision doesn’t come as much of a surprise since RIM’s library of third-party applications is considered to be vastly inferior to those of Android and Apple .

Hot Feature: Where Did Netflix Go Wrong?

In an attempt to appeal to consumers, RIM has upgraded its software to make it possible for app makers to move existing Android apps to PlayBook. The upgrade also allows for the tablet to be connected to a television via a standard cord under the control of the BlackBerry smartphone. It is unclear whether Netflix will create a specific application for PlayBook or port its existing Android app across.

Netflix has more than 24 million U.S. subscribers and has applications for Apple’s iPhone and iPad and for devices that run on Google’s Android software. Despite any backlash from consumers due to price hikes, Netflix has managed to expand its streaming-only services to Canada and parts of Latin America.

Oh and "even better yet" Playbook owners are, actually, cancelling their existing Netflix memberships because of this strategic move...but, hey, who needs subscribers anyway....

Hey loser. Four years ago. RIM's pps was $148. Apple's pps: $200. Yesterday: Rim=$14+ Apple=$522+. Like I said. You and Rim are losers. And so is Canada.

The entire US favors Android and Apple over Blackberry/playbook, what are you going to do about it? Go serf on the web, you hosers.

Netflicks, for those who still want it, will be available through the Android app, which also works on the Playbook, thanks to OS 2.0. With Netflicks in such dire straights one wonders why they would take this negative tone.....to anyone.

Glad I don't own their stock.

Echo Dingo. You're such a trolling creep.

EchoTango makes a complete and rational comment, why is that trolling? Netflix does work through the Android app, also through SplashTop and Netflix did lose a lot of subscribers this past summer, over half , so one would think they would do whatever they need to do to get more back. Again, how is this trolling?

Worldwide sympathy for Rim could work to Rim's favor as companies ditch Rim things all over the world, starting with Goldman Sachs, lately the American Navy, Haliburton and Netflix. Pretty soon, Rim sympathizers would ditch their countries which ditch Rim and start their own nations.

Netflix just waded into the UK, the second home of BlackBerry and they are doing this? Safe to say; I will not be glancing their way as I was seriously considering.

Funny I posted that I just watch netflix on my playbook by using the web browser like I do on my lap top and the comment gets removed. I don't see what the big deal is or why I you need an app for it. Lets see if this comment gets removed too.

Yeah I know. BTW RIM hates app developers. KIK was Research in Motion's favorite app company and from Waterloo too. Their Devcon star. That's before RIM tried suing KIK for making a better app than theirs. And they were just kids. 16 twenty years old kids, sued. Apps are where it's at. The Internet is being monetized. Cyberspace has an economy beyond being a free information highway. You like your browser eh. And you like Redrarch in Motion and their mobile devices eh. GrrrrrrrrrrrrreaT !!! Hopefully they don't go under. Just an observation though. From a distance. It seems like everything that people disliked about RIM's management is remanifedting itself in the Conservative led Parliament. I dunno. Maybe the world is just waking up to the fact that not only are there a lot of #$%$ in Canada, #$%$ run everything. So maybe that's why NetFlix just isn't into Research in Motion, the BB or the PlayBook. If you're nice. For reference purposes. If you say please. You can use your browser rather than the app: Big #$%$ in Canada. Volume 2: Big #$%$ in Canadian History. Etc etc. The perennial favorites: Canadian #$%$ in Medice, Law and Politics. Then there's the Volume 7: Atypical Canadian Assholrs who were not White Anglo Saxon Protestants or Québécois.

I have never had a Netflix account, and with this news I have no reason to even consider them. Never needed them, never will.

I hope Netflix stock owners appreciate the snubbing by Netflix of 75 million BlackBerry owners....Google Movies at the Android Market work just fine on Playbook 2.0....Comcast will stream to BB soon as well.....Who needs Netflix?

I have blackberry, ipad2 and samsung galaxy s2 (android). And I love netflix =)
    nothing will replace my blackberry.
but nothing will also replace my android (tethering to laptop) + netflix
    and Ipad2 + netflix

I don't see why people make a big fuss..
netflix imo is better than comcast/blockbuster I gave them a try.
blockbuster takes forever to ship their releases (took 2 weeks for lord of the ring and its not a new movie)

If anything, i would recommend people buying netflix stock right now as I predict it will soar at least 10% soon as they are buying more contents.
