This Friday, Netflix (NFLX) will begin to find out if it can build something solid out of "House of Cards," a political drama directed by David Fincher and starring Kevin Spacey as a U.S. congressman is the first original programming financed by Netflix, reports the Wall Street Journal. The question is whether "House of Cards" can transform Netflix's reputation as a repository for movies and children's fare and help the company move into territory dominated by Time Warner (TWX) HBO and CBS Corp.'s (CBS) Showtime.
Investors recovered their poise by midday Thursday after an early sell-off sent stocks sharply lower.
