BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) -- Netflix has yet to debut its original series "Orange is the New Black" but said Friday that the comedic drama will return for a second season next year.

The hour-long series, produced by Lionsgate Television, is set in a women's prison and is based on the memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman. Its first 13-episode season will be available through Netflix starting July 11.

The show, created by Jenji Kohan, stars Taylor Schilling as an engaged New Yorker whose decade-old relationship with a drug-runner results in her arrest and 15-month long detention in a federal penitentiary.

The second season of the show is set to begin production later this summer.

Netflix shares fell $2.96 to $212.01 in morning trading.
