Netflix users take on Chicago, Trump on CEO pay, and gas prices plunge

U.S. stocks (^DJI, ^IXIC, ^GSPC) are trading lower today, but not by much as investors wait for word on interest rates from Janet Yellen and the FOMC this Thursday.

Here are some of the other stories Yahoo Finance is keeping an eye on today:

Gas price plunge
Consumers are paying over a dollar less per gallon than this time last year and gas prices have slid more than 30 cents in just the last month. While low energy is good for consumers and many American corporations, Yahoo Finance's Rick Newman notes it's not so good for a company like Tesla (TSLA) that has pinned its hopes on appealing to energy conscious car buyers.

Trump weigh in on CEO pay
Presidential hopeful Donald Trump called high CEO pay a "complete joke" on CBS' Face the Nation yesterday and cited Macy's (M) as just one of the companies that, he says, fills its board with friends of the CEO, making it a foregone conclusion that the chief's pay will be stratospheric.

Netflix tax in Chicago
Back in July the Chicago's comptroller took an already standing 9% tax on tickets to "amusements" like concerts and sporting events, and extended it to online amusements like Netflix (NFLX), Spotify and Xbox Live's  (MSFT) online video game services. Now the citizens are fighting back, calling the move illegal and suing to get it stricken from the books.

Talent agencies double down on athletes
The NFL is beginning a new season, and Hollywood is getting in on the action. Over 60 percent of the NFL's starting quarterbacks this year are represented by Hollywood firm Creative Artists Agency. As the value of sports media rights surge, talent agencies are pushing their way into an wide range of sports-related businesses.
