News Summary: Barge hits Miss. River bridge

News Summary: Miss. River closes to ships at Vicksburg after barge hits bridge

BARGING IN: Cleanup crews skimmed oily water from the Mississippi River a day after a barge with more than 80,000 gallons of oil struck a railroad bridge near Vicksburg, Miss., spreading a sheen of light crude that kept part of the waterway shut to ship traffic Monday.

CRASH COURSE: Investigators said that a towboat or tug was pushing two tank barges when the collision occurred on Sunday. The second barge was damaged as well.

NOT THE FIRST TIME: Barges hit Vicksburg bridges from time to time. A sharp bend in the river there is often blamed.
