CORN PUNCHED: Corn prices dropped 4 percent because of weak export sales. Rain benefited crops in the western Corn Belt which could help this fall's harvest.

DEMAND WEAKENING? Investors worried that commodities demand may weaken because of China's slower economic growth and Europe's unsettled financial problems. Seven countries that use the euro as currency are in recession. A June election in Greece may result in that country leaving the union of countries that use the euro.

GAINS, LOSSES: Prices for gold, oil, copper and soybeans rose. Natural gas, wheat and palladium fell.
