News Summary: Facebook 3rd-quarter results show mobile ad inroads, stock surges after-hours

MOBILE GROWTH: As part of Tuesday's third-quarter results, the world's biggest social media company disclosed for the first time that some 14 percent of its ad revenue came from mobile advertising.

THE NUMBERS: Facebook Inc. posted a loss of $59 million, or 2 cents per share, in the July-September period. Adjusted earnings of 12 cents per share were a penny better than expected. Revenue rose 32 percent to $1.26 billion. That's also higher than the $1.23 billion Wall Street was looking for.

STOCK UP: Facebook's shares jumped $2.53, or 13 percent, to $22.03 after the announcement. It had closed up 18 cents at $19.50 in regular trading.
