PROMISES, PROMISES: France's business lobby is promising to create 1 million jobs over the next five years as it tries to convince the French that companies are not the enemy in the fight to reduce unemployment.
WEAK JOB MARKET: France has 11 percent unemployment, with at least 3.3 million people without jobs.
BUSINESS ANGLE: The group, called Medef, called on the government to lower taxes and enact labor market reforms. French companies complain that they pay too much in taxes, but others criticize corporations for paying their executives too much, not paying enough in taxes and ruthlessly laying off workers.
