THE RESULTS: Harley-Davidson Inc. said Wednesday its second-quarter net income jumped 30 percent. But its revenue for the quarter fell short of expectations, as warmer-than-usual weather in the first quarter of the year pulled forward some second-quarter sales. Lower European demand also reduced sales.

WHO IS BUYING?: By volume, worldwide retail sales of new bikes rose 2.8 percent and included a 4 percent increase in U.S. unit sales. Asia Pacific sales rose 10 percent and Latin America sales jumped 38 percent, but sales fell a combined 6.4 percent in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
