News Summary: J&J recalling 32M contraceptive packages outside US, says pregnancies unlikely

Associated Press

OOPS!: Johnson & Johnson's recalling 32 million monthly packages of Cilest oral contraceptives, distributed in Europe, Asia and Latin America since 2011. Samples from those batches are tested periodically. Last month, they showed one hormone in the pills wasn't dissolving as fast as it should.

THE IMPACT: The health care giant says unplanned pregnancy is very unlikely for users, so it's only recalling the estimated 800,000 packages still on the market from pharmacies and wholesalers.

BACK STORY: Since 2009, J&J has issued about 40 recalls of products from a variety of medicines to faulty hip implants and blood glucose meters.
