GEE ... NO, GE: General Electric led the 30 stocks in the Dow Jones industrial average on Friday after the conglomerate reported stronger quarterly earnings, thanks to orders from Brazil, Angola and other developing countries.
SOLID START: Of the 67 companies in the S&P 500 index that have reported quarterly earnings so far, 43 have trumped estimates. Analysts forecast that fourth-quarter earnings will increase 4 percent over the same period the year before, according to S&P Capital IQ.
FINAL SCORE: The Dow gained 54 points to end the week at 13,650. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 5 points to 1,486.
