FREE TO BAIL: The highest court in Germany ruled that the country could contribute to Europe's €500 billion ($640 billion) rescue fund to help indebted governments. The ruling offered investors relief, but not much more.

NEW IDEAS: Facebook's stock jumped 8 percent. Mark Zuckerberg, the social networking company's founder, reportedly said that Facebook would work on generating profit from users who use the social network on their phones.

THE NUMBERS: The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 10 points to close at 13,333, a four-year high. The Standard & Poor's 500 index added three points to 1,436, also close to a four-year high.
