BACK IN: Investors got back in to the market after a slump a day earlier. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 55 points, almost exactly half of what it lost the day before.

BEST BUY SURGE: The electronics retailer Best Buy surged 16 percent to $25.13 after the company announced that it planned to collaborate with the Korean smartphone and tablet maker Samsung to open kiosks in its stores.

LOWER YIELDS: The yield on the 10-year treasury note fell to 1.76 percent, its lowest of the year, suggesting that investors are becoming more averse to riskier assets.
