THE NUMBERS: Grocery store operator Supervalu lost $111 million, or 52 cents per share, in the quarter ended Sept. 8, while revenue dropped 5 percent to $8.04 billion.
THE COMPANY: Supervalu's chains include Albertsons, Cub Foods, Jewel-Osco and Save-A-Lot. It's posted an annual loss for three of its past four years as grocery competition intensifies and shoppers watch their spending.
RESCUE?: The company has been reviewing options with financial advisers, a process that typically includes the possibility of selling the company. It said Thursday that it is in active discussions with several parties regarding a possible deal.
