JOB GAINS INCREASE: Payroll provider ADP said U.S. businesses added just 135,000 jobs in May, slightly more than April's revised 113,000.
SLOWER THAN WINTER: The survey shows job gains have slowed from the winter, when ADP reported job gains of more than 200,000 per month.
DIFFERENT FROM GOV'T SURVEY: The ADP survey, derived from payroll data, has diverged at times from the government's more comprehensive monthly jobs report which will be released Friday. In April, the government said private employers added 176,000 jobs, much higher than the ADP's estimate. Economists forecast the government report will show employers added 170,000 jobs in May.
