JUNO BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- NextEra Energy Inc.'s President and CEO James Robo will also become its chairman, the clean energy company said Friday.
NextEra said that its board of directors made the appointment and that it will take effect on Dec. 12. Robo will replace Lewis Hay III, who is retiring as executive chairman on that date.
Robo has been CEO of NextEra since July 2012. He has worked at the Juno Beach, Fla.-based company in other positions since 2002.
The company also said Kirk Hachigian is joining its board of directors. Hachigian was the chairman, president and chief executive officer of Cooper Industries, until it was acquired by Eaton Corp. in late 2012.
NextEra share rose 54 cents to close at $83.54 Friday.
