Athletes’ Performance today announced former NFL quarterback Jordan Palmer has joined the Athletes’ Performance team as its lead quarterback coach. Palmer was tapped by hall of famer Warren Moon, current director of football development, based on his deep experience with Elite 11 and the legacy of athletes that program has helped produce.
Through his work with the Elite 11 current and former top prospects, Palmer has been instrumental in developing quarterbacks for both the college and pro ranks. Palmer has worked closely with Super Bowl-winning quarterback Trent Dilfer to create a “quarterback architecture” focused on the biomechanics of throwing motions and has developed a curriculum that mirrors what players will see when they reach the NFL. Notable Elite 11 athletes include Andrew Luck, Landry Jones and EJ Manuel.
“I’m a big believer in Athletes’ Performance’s approach to player development and training, and I’m honored to be a part of the team,” said Palmer. “Athletes’ Performance, with its industry-leading strength, power and speed-training programs, along with personalized nutrition, physical therapy and recovery services, is recognized as the place for players to train as they make the leap to the NFL.”
Palmer is Moon’s first addition to the Athletes’ Performance specialized preparation staff for the NFL Combine.
“Palmer’s first-hand experience of going through the NFL Draft process will prove extremely valuable for quarterbacks training with him at Athletes’ Performance and will give them a major advantage as they embark on the next phase of their careers,” said Moon.
Working together, Moon and Palmer will guide players through movement, nutrition, mindset and recovery methods necessary for the NFL Combine event and transition into the NFL.
Palmer will provide focused training on maintaining the proper upper body movement while controlling lower body movement for maximum performance and coach players to develop sound foot and arm mechanics, power throwing, accuracy, footwork, pocket presence and situational awareness on the field.
“Palmer is well-versed in coaching young talent, having spent years working with prep athletes at the Elite 11 football camps, and his recent NFL experience will be a major benefit for the quarterbacks he’ll be working with,” said Mark Verstegen, president and founder of Athletes’ Performance, and the director of performance for the NFL Players’ Association.
Since its inception in 1999, Athletes’ Performance has trained six No. 1 picks for the NFL Draft, 94 first rounders and 459 total selections.
