NH lawmakers send governor $245M capital budget; contains funding for women's prison
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- New Hampshire lawmakers have passed a $245 million public works budget for the next two years that contains a new women's prison.
The Legislature voted Wednesday to approve the proposed 224-bed prison and transitional facility in Concord near the men's prison. The project would cost $38 million and is the largest single item in the budget. The bill calls for the design to include enough land for possible expansion to 350 beds in the future.
The budget also includes money for new liquor stores in Salem, Epping and Warner. The community college system would get $13 million and the state's university system would get $8 million. Money also is included to repair the Statehouse dome and repair the seawall in North Hampton
