SALEM, N.H. (AP) -- State officials are kicking off a weeklong effort to raise awareness about New Hampshire's manufacturing industry and its need for skilled workers.

Jeffrey Rose, commissioner of the Department of Resources and Economic Development, will be at Scott Electronics in Salem on Friday as New Hampshire joins 36 other states to mark National Manufacturing Day.

That event will be followed by the state's Manufacturing Week. Starting Monday, more than 50 companies, schools and technical centers across the state will open their doors to high schools students and others interested in manufacturing careers. And on Oct. 10, the 11th Governor's Summit on Advanced Manufacturing and High Technology will be held in Manchester.

New Hampshire's manufacturing sector employs about 66,000 people.
