NORTH WOODSTOCK, N.H. (AP) -- It's still October, but one New Hampshire ski area has opened for the day.
Bretton Woods Ski area took advantage of the cold weather and opened Wednesday for one day of free skiing and riding. It plans to close again until opening during the regular season starting in November.
Other ski areas projecting to open in November are Cannon Mountain, Cranmore Mountain Resort, Granite Gorge, Loon Mountain, Mount Sunapee and Waterville Valley.
Ski areas planning to open in December include Abenaki, Black Mountain, Dartmouth Skiway, Gunstock Mountain Resort, King Pine Ski Area, McIntyre Ski Area, Pats Peak and Ragged Mountain.
Several cross country ski areas including Great Glen Trails and Jackson XC are also hoping to open in November if the weather cooperates.
