Nielsen posts higher 3rd-quarter profit as demand grows

NEW YORK (AP) -- Audience and shopping analytics firm Nielsen Holdings NV posted a 28 percent increase in its third-quarter earnings on Wednesday, helped by global expansion and growing demand for its measurement offerings.

The company earned $134 million, or 35 cents per share, in the July-September period. That's up from $105 million, or 29 cents per share, in the same period a year earlier. Adjusted earnings were $193 million, or 50 cents per share, in the latest quarter.

Revenue rose 3 percent to $1.39 billion from $ 1.35 billion.

Analysts, on average, were expecting adjusted earnings of 48 cents per share on revenue of$1.39 billion, according to a poll by FactSet.

Nielsen's stock slid 53 cents to $38.31 in afternoon trading. It is up 25 percent so far in 2013.
