LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) -- Royal Dutch Shell PLC says it has reopened a pipeline after fixing a leak blamed on oil thieves in Nigeria's oil-rich southern delta.
Spokesman Precious Okolobo told the Associated Press that Shell's Nigerian subsidiary reopened its Nembe Creek trunkline in Bayelsa State on Monday.
Shell had warned that it wouldn't be able to meet forcast production after the leak forced it to cut production by 70,000 barrels per day.
However, Okolobo said the "force majeure" has not been lifted.
The oil major said it recovered more than 200 barrels of spilled oil after the leak discovered on Dec. 24. It said an investigation showed oil thieves had installed valves at two different points.
Shell's pipelines run across Nigeria's oil-rich region of swamps, mangroves and creeks. Nigeria is a top supplier of crude oil to the U.S.
