TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey voters could be asked to raise the minimum wage and tie future increases to the Consumer Price Index.
The Assembly is set to vote Thursday on a resolution that would place the constitutional amendment on November's ballot. The Senate has already passed the resolution.
The amendment calls for raising the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $8.25 next January and tie future increases to the annual price index.
Gov. Chris Christie last month conditionally vetoed a bill that would have raised the minimum wage by $1.25 per hour. Christie suggested a $1 per hour wage increase if Democrats agreed to phase it in over three years.
