NJ governor set to offer Sandy rebuilding advice

New Jersey governor expected to announce rebuilding guidelines after Sandy

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) -- Property owners and towns in New Jersey will soon learn what the road to recovery will look like after Superstorm Sandy.

Gov. Chris Christie is expected to offer state guidelines on rebuilding standards Thursday. The guidelines would include where and how high to rebuild.

Christie will announce the "Hurricane Sandy Flood Map Regulations" in Seaside Heights. The town, which was featured in the MTV reality show "Jersey Shore" sustained substantial damage to its boardwalk during Sandy.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency last month released advisory flood maps covering 194 municipalities in coastal areas. Based on data gathered before Sandy, the maps show the risk of flooding is worse than believed when the current maps came out in the 1980s.
