Obama says government shutdown still preventable


WASHINGTON, Sept 30 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obamasaid on Monday a government shutdown was entirely preventableand accused Republicans in the House of Representatives ofmanufacturing a crisis that would hurt the economy and citizensacross the country.

"A shutdown will have a very real economic impact on realpeople right away," Obama told reporters at the White House.

Obama said his hope and expectation was that lawmakers wouldstill do the right thing and prevent a shutdown.
