NORWALK, Conn., May 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- UBM Medica US announces that OBGYN.net, a leading online community for medical professionals specializing in women's health, will be featuring special coverage of key study findings and prize-winning presentations from the 62nd Annual Clinical Meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) held April 26 – 30 in Chicago. More than 400 abstracts of papers and posters were featured at this year's meeting.
The Annual Clinical Meeting of ACOG gathers each spring to share the latest innovations in research and clinical care. The overarching theme of ACOG 2014 is "Every Woman Every Time," with The College encouraging "outside of the box" thinking and focusing on equality for women and disease prevention. Through educational seminars and research presentations, all levels and subspecialties of obstetrics and gynecology, as well as experts in other unrelated fields, have come together to share wisdom and research. These efforts of ACOG, as well as those of partner societies, represent great dedication to collaboration to improve outcomes for women, mothers, and babies.
Some recent highlights from the ACOG 2014 meeting include:
- A Solution for Painful Sex in Breast Cancer Survivors: Martha Goetsch, MD, MPH, of the Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, challenges ob/gyns to stop thinking of dyspareunia as an atrophy disorder and to start thinking of it as a pain disorder in women in whom estrogen-based therapy is contraindicated.
- The Decline of the Preferred Approach to Hysterectomy: Vaginal hysterectomies are associated with superior patient outcomes and are less costly than other methods of hysterectomy. So why is their rate of use declining? Rosanne Kho, MD, of the Mayo Clinic in Arizona puts this question to members of ACOG in The Donald F. Richardson Memorial Lecture "Facilitating Vaginal Surgery with Surgical Innovation and Techniques."
