Ohio 8-Year-Old Wins CLIF Kid Backyard Game of the Year Contest

CLIF Kid®, maker of organic snacks for active kids, today named “Shadow Jumpers” as the winning game of its fourth annual Backyard Game of the Year contest. The young game creator, Ella, an 8-year-old from Wadsworth, Ohio will take home the grand prize — a $10,000 educational scholarship, a bike and helmet, plus a fun block party so she can share and play games with family and friends.

Backyard Game of the Year is an annual contest that challenges kids to play outside and use their imagination to create fun and original backyard games. Kids from across the country between the ages of six and 12 submitted games for the chance to be named one of three top finalists. Judging criteria was based on game creativity, originality and uniqueness. The public voted for their favorite game on CLIF Kid’s Facebook page, and selected Ella as this year’s winner.

“This is the best summer ever! My whole family is so excited,” said Ella. “I made up Shadow Jumpers to pass the time because there was nothing to do. Now my friends and everyone in the world can play.”

The runners-up, Brayden, a 6-year-old from Ruston, Louisiana (The Recycle Relay) and Maley Jane, a 10-year-old from Pearland, Texas (Tick-Tick-Boom) will each receive a new bicycle, helmet and a $1,000 educational scholarship.
