Ohio State will be without wide receiver Torrance Gibson this season.

The program announced Monday morning that Gibson, a redshirt freshman, has been suspended from the university for the fall semester. Gibson violated Ohio State’s student code of conduct. No specifics about the violation were provided.

During a press conference Monday, Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer said he “disagrees” with the suspension.

“It was not from the football program or the athletic department,” Meyer said. “I disagree with it.”

Gibson arrived at OSU last year as a four-star quarterback but took a redshirt year as he made the transition to wide receiver. Gibson caught two touchdowns in OSU’s spring game, and Meyer has been complimentary of the strides Gibson has taken on and off the field. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Gibson dealt with a hamstring injury for much of preseason camp, but was still expected to have a role on the Buckeyes’ offense in 2016, possibly as a wildcat quarterback.

Though their top three receivers from 2015 are off to the NFL, the Buckeyes have plenty of talent at the wideout position even without Gibson.
