One-Year CD Rates Decrease By One Basis Point While Others Remain Unchanged

TheStreet and RateWatch Report Top National & Regional CD Rate Issuers

PR Newswire

NEW YORK, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- RateWatch, a premier banking data and analytics service owned by TheStreet, Inc. (TST) reported today that national averages for one-year CD rates decreased by one basis point, while all other durations remained unchanged this week as the Federal Reserve has continued to keep the short-term federal funds rate at a range of zero to 0.25% since late 2008.

"CD rates remained little changed this week, keeping in line with the sideways trend in 2014. Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen testifies to the Senate Banking Committee on Thursday, but she isn't expected to offer a substantially different outlook on the economy and the central bank's economic stimulus program," reported Joe Deaux, TheStreet's Economics Analyst. "For now, many economists argue that the Fed won't raise interest rates until after 2014, when the Fed will have completed tapering of its bond-buying. Savers should expect little change in CD rates in the immediate term, but could anticipate upside potential headed into 2015."
