Opposition strikes at 'Obamacare' on birth control

Opposition strikes at 'Obamacare' seeking exemptions from new birth control regulations

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Republican state lawmakers are opening another front in the war against President Obama's health care overhaul.

They're seizing on the hot-button issue of birth control, with bills allowing insurers to ignore the federal requirement to cover free contraception.

In Idaho, the first state to pass a law requiring a lawsuit over the 2010 federal health overhaul, a legislator is pushing to exempt insurers from the new requirement they provide coverage for abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception.

Missouri and Arizona legislation would also allow employers to refuse to provide coverage for birth control, abortions or sterilization procedures.

The state bills are meant to underscore recent religious groups' protest of federal requirements that church-affiliated institutions including universities must include birth control coverage in insurance plans.

Contraception benefits are not a government responsibility. This is an individual choice and there is a myriad of inexpensive devices, pills, etc. If someone can afford insurance, can they not also be expected to be able to afford contraception? Those who ignore warnings and common sense will continue to do so and unwanted pregnancies will continue. More of the Gimmee, Gimmee Culture. What is next - telling couples how many children they are allowed, a la China?

The Republicans are totally corrupt on the birth control issue - aspirin between the legs? They are unwilling to prevent unwanted pregnanacies and are unwilling to support the result of that policy - sounds pretty corrupt and hypocritical to me. The only difference between Republiicans and the Taliban is that the former change their underwear more often.

Like I said before: What bird represents freedom? ( The Bald Eagle) What bird represents peace and love? (The Dove) What bird represents birth control? (The Swallow)

I hope they are ready to hand out welfare to all those born to parents that cannot afford them or even want them.

No. The parents have to deal with it or the children die. Let them live with that on their conscience, not mine.

SO how would having insurance provide birth control weigh on your conscience George?
