PARIS (AP) -- France is hosting German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her ministers for a joint Cabinet meeting with fellow eurozone member Greece, which is again teetering on the brink of bankruptcy.
Monday's 14th French-German Council of Ministers was focusing on coordinating the countries' tax policies — weeks after Standard & Poor's cut France's sovereign debt rating to one notch below Germany's top-tier AAA rating.
Merkel's political party has said she will campaign with fellow conservative President Nicolas Sarkozy before France's presidential election this spring. Polls show he trails Socialist candidate Francois Hollande.
Eurozone pillars France and Germany have helped to underpin a second planned euro130 billion ($171 billion) bailout package for debt-crippled Greece to avoid bankruptcy next month. The plan has run into political pressure in Greece.
